FORMULA FOR TEAM IMPROVEMENT
From a book called Court Sense: Winning Basketball’s Mental Game by a coach named John Giannini:
“Listen to the coaching staff. Respect and help your teammates. Present yourself in a manner that will be respected and admired by others.”
I underlined this quote many years ago. It seemed to me a good way to guide someone wanting to help his team.
- Listen. Be coachable. Have the mindset that the coach will make you better.
- Respect and help. Be a person who makes your teammate better. Have encouraging words. Acknowledge their efforts and progress.
- Be a model. Cause others to want to be like you. Inspire the better virtues amongst your team.
It’s a simple formula. How do you match up?
