Struck today by this quote that showed up in my email today:
For me, I’m driven by two main philosophies: know more today about the world than I knew yesterday and lessen the suffering of others. You’d be surprised how far that gets you.
Neil deGrasse Tyson
Two things: Learn more. Serve more.
I’m flabbergasted with the pace of change and the development of resources which can cause us to learn.
Recently, our management team in North Carolina showed me some of the computer tools they are using to study what we do, measure what we do and determine how we can get better. We are able to measure things that we formerly couldn’t measure because it takes too much time. We can use that information to guide us.
To know those tools exist and to experiment with using them will be the source of much knowledge. I expect that if we can develop those abilities, it will set us apart.
In any case, if you ever begin to think that you’ve learned all you need to know to navigate in today’s world, I fear you will be mistaken.
Waking up every day with a goal of learning more will serve you.
Serve more. Make someone’s life around you better. Be known for this. Have that mindset. Be on the alert to accomplish it.
When you’re known for making things better, the demand for your presence grows.
