I shared yesterday a development model describing how young people can develop into positive, contributing adults. The model lists five C’s: Connection, Character, Confidence, Competence, and Caring.
What’s good for young people becoming adults is probably good for all adults.
Consequently, I believe that our organization will do well to promote the five C’s. It’s a strategy that will help assure enduring success. When people become more effective because they join our team, we will have a stronger team than those with which we compete.
So, let’s address the “caring” component.
I’ve heard that “people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.”
Establishing how much we care about each other is the start of developing each other.
People who care, communicate.
People who care, recognize and acknowledge contributions.
People who care are sources of encouragement and compassion.
People who care move beyond “business” and make it personal.
I was talking to a job candidate today. He said people will return to the places where they were loved.
Substitute care for love and we have a recipe for an elite team building.
