Recognition For Our Excellent Loggers

Our Shipshewana team received a nice nod this week when the Indiana Tree Committee named us the Logger of the Year.  The award will be presented at the Indiana Hardwood Lumber Association annual meeting in February.

Nick Brown leads our logging operation.  He says we were nominated for the award by a firm of timber consultants who know and admire our work.

Shipshewana is the only place where we engage in logging.  Nick and his team explore timber opportunities in our market.  Place bids on the timber and harvest the bids that we secure.

Logging is not for the “faint of heart”.  Cutting down large hardwood trees safely is a task requiring skill and mindfulness.

Excellent loggers do what they say they will do.  They respect the land and the forest.  When they leave, the only way you can tell they have been there, is there are trees missing.

In recent years, we’ve been working hard to advance the profession of forestry.  We employ new techniques in harvesting.  We teach students about the virtues of a career in forestry.  We educate the public on the stewardship and sustainable practices that are the current state of affairs in our industry.

Our efforts have not gone unnoticed.  The recognition is deserved.

Congratulations to Nick and his logging team:  Harry Allen, Dylan Avior, Troy Davidhizer, Justin Edmonds and Brad Troyer as well as, our log haulers:  Eathen Harris, Tom Avery, Jason Davis and Howard Maust.
