Sociologist Brene Brown created one of the most-watched TED Talks when she spoke on the power of vulnerability. Watch it here: https://youtu.be/
She points out that vulnerability is apparent when things are uncertain, when things important to you are at risk, and when you face emotional exposure. It’s not weak to be vulnerable. You’re not inadequate when you are vulnerable.
In fact, says Brown, if you have the right mindset about being vulnerable, you will respond to it with courage.
Feeling vulnerable is a call to action:
- If something breaks your heart, you can be inspired to engage.
- When a situation creates uncertainty, it draws your attention until a balance returns.
- When matters important to you are at risk, you summon energy and purpose to address them.
Action in the face of vulnerability is courage. When you feel vulnerable, it’s not time to shrink. It’s time to focus attention, effort, and energy courageously.
